ABOUT THE ARTIST : MALIA ESCOBAR
I love what I do, and I sincerely believe it is my mission in life to provide people with beautiful memories of themselves and their loved ones. People often ask me how I got in to photography, and the honest answer is that I've always taken pictures. When I was a young girl, I used the family camera to photograph my friends, family and pets. Through the years, my cameras improved and so did my skills. A turning point for me was when I received a manual, single lens reflex camera for my sixteenth birthday. I had to figure out how to set everything to get a good exposure. I had a great zoom lens for the first time, and I loved it!
I got my degree in photojournalism in 1993, then began photographing weddings and developing my style of natural portraiture in 1994. I work to capture relationships, personalities and beauty in my portraits and wedding photographs. You may see from my portraits that I like simple elegance, so black and white is a natural choice. These images have a look that never goes out of style. I use Hasselblad medium format (which I call the "Rolls Royce of cameras") and Nikon 35mm.
